Woodstock Altecs.....

I've got the Woodstock ('69) movie on right now. Not sure if the woofer boxes are Altec but the horns are no doubt Altec. Hard to get a really good look but they appear to be 511's, 311's, and OR 311-90's.

Does anyone know for sure which drivers were used?

The horn labelled 511A in the marketing pic looks like grey paint & aquaplast to me. one would think that all the hi-freq drivers would be large format. I smell 511E.

I'm assuming you're referring to the side fill at stage right?

Pretty sure that's a 311-90 on top aimed directly across the front of the stage.

I think you get a couple good peeks at it during Hendrix' performance. It's been a long time since i've watched the whole thing. Usually Canned Heat performing "Leavin This Town" gives me all the "fix" i need. I actually wore their segment out on my vhs copy, thankfully DVD came along. If time travel ever becomes possible, my first destination will be the front row for Canned Heat.

Yes, was curious about drivers in those and the ones in the towers as well. I freezed the picture to get a good look and the stage horns are definetly 311's because I can clearly make out two vanes. I'm no musician myself but I find it interesting no one used "wedge" stage monitors......so I assume these stage speakers flanking the performers serve that purpose?

Anyway, EarlK's link confirms that the drivers used were 290's.

So those are 311s next to Hendrix? ...looks like two pairs on both ends of the stage. The Bill Hanley website says the tower speakers are made up of 1003s & 290s, on top of custom made bins of quad JBL d130s, with everything being driven by a combo of McIntosh tube & solid state. Pretty frickin cool !

Pictures and film from Woodstock never cease to amaze me. Such a huge show, so little gear!
